Licorice International Partners With Lincoln Library Adult Summer Reading Program

Lincolnites - Have you heard about the Adult Summer Reading program at Lincoln City Libraries? There's no reason to let the kids have all the fun.  Join the Adult Summer Reading Program, read books and earn some great prizes.
This summer, Licorice International is partnering with the Adult Summer Reading Program. Every adult who registers for the program will receive a "Licorice Buck" good for $1 toward licorice or other treats at the Licorice International Retail Store, located at 801 Q Street in the Haymarket. Plus, the first 500 to complete the program will receive a Licorice International "Buy One Get One Free" coupon, good for up to $5.

The 2011 Summer Reading Program starts June 1. Here's how to participate:
  • Register at any Lincoln library.
  • Read four books between June 1 and July 31. For each book read, fill out an entry form available at the library, turn it in, and get your booklet stamped by library staff — each form turned in gives you one chance at your local branch's Book Lover's Bag drawing at the end of the summer!
  • After reading four books, complete the evaluation form in your booklet, and turn it in to be entered into the Grand Prize drawing.
  • After you have read four books and turned in your evaluation for the Grand Prize drawing, continue to read and submit additional entry forms for the Book Lover's Bag branch drawings.
See you at Lincoln City Libraries and Licorice International this summer!

Get Your Passport and Be a Tourist in Lincoln. Visit Licorice International. Win Prizes.

The Telephone Museum is one of the places to visit
What do the Lincoln Children's Zoo, Wunder Rosa Winery, and Licorice International have in common? They're all places Lincolnites can visit as part of Discover Lincoln this summer. The Lincoln Convention and Visitor's Bureau is encouraging Lincolnites to "be a tourist in your own hometown" by visiting 25 places of interest. Have you ever learned about the history of quilts at the International Quilt Study Center, tasted ethnic food at Celebrate Lincoln, relaxed under the stars while listening to the Lincoln Munipal Band play at Antelope Park, or--most importantly--sampled great licorice and other treats from around the world at Licorice International? This summer, you have the opportunity to do just that.

To "be a tourist," simply stop by Licorice International at 803 Q Street in Lincoln and pick up your "passport" brochure.  (Be sure to get a stamp from Licorice International while there.) Then gather as many stamps as you can from the 25 sites on the brochure. Drop off or mail your passport to the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau by August 15 to qualify for a prize drawing. There's also a great photo contest you can enter.

Winners of the Gingerbread House Contest with a Twist

Hannah Becker won two prizes for her architectural achievement
Congratulations to Hannah Becker, who won two prizes in the first annual Licorice International Gingerbread House Contest with a Twist.  She was awarded a total of $75 in gift certificates to Licorice International for the People's Choice Award ($25) and First Place Award ($50).

Hannah’s house, “Temporary Elegance,”  was based on a dollhouse she’d owned as a young girl. When Hannah bought the dollhouse, the woman who made it included a small model of the house made out of cardboard. Hannah used the model to make a pattern for the gingerbread house. She used Royal icing to hold the pieces of gingerbread together and buttercream frosting to decorate the house. She decorated it with various candies, including the Sweet Licorice ButtonsRed Licorice Laces and Blue Rasperry Twists, which she purchased at Licorice International. It took her three days to decorate the house. Hannah admits that she isn’t a big fan of black licorice, but she is looking forward to using her gift certificates to purchase other treats from Licorice International, such as Butter Caramels, and trying some of the mints.

Sam & Jane Swanson, tied for First Place with their gingerbread Log Cabin, complete with real licorice root piled up outside to represent the woodpile. Hannah and the Swansons (mother and son) were each awarded a $50 gift certificate to Licorice International.

Gina Henrickson won second place for “Gina’s Dream House" and received a gift certificate for $25. She used the following licorice in her gingerbread house: RJ’s Licorice Allsorts, Assorted Sour Stars, Bridge Mix, Red Licorice Laces, Black Licorice Wheels, and Amarelli Sassolini.

Licorice International Photo Contest: Summer Fun with Licorice

What are you doing for fun this summer? Send us a photo of yourself or someone else enjoying licorice while participating in a favorite summer activity, and you may win a $15 or $25 gift certificate to Licorice International. (http://www.licoriceinternational.com/)

Remember, licorice is perfect for summertime fun because it's low fat and won't melt in the heat. It's easy to slip a package of licorice in your beach bag or backpack before you head outside, and the sweet taste will give you just the right pick-me-up snack. Licorice International offers more than 160 kinds of licorice and other sweets to choose from.

You might want to pose in front of a landmark while on vacation or take a picture at a ballgame or in a state park. Whatever you do for fun, send us a photo (and be sure to include licorice in the photo).  Simply send it as a photo attachment to licorice@oakviewresources.com or attach it to a wall post on Licorice International's Facebook page. Click here to become a fan of Licorice International on Facebook.

You will have until August 31, 2010, to submit your photos.  Good luck and have fun!
