Lisa Demonstrates How She Makes the $10,000 Cupcake

In 2011, Jelly Belly held the $10,000 Cupcake Challenge, asking for crative cupcake designs. Lisa Schrader of Connecticut was awarded the grand prize for her clever "Bubble Trouble" design, inspired by her son and his tendency to overflow the bathtub.

And if you need lots of different colors of jelly beans, we have them at Licorice International.

Licorice and Wine Pairings: Licorice and Wine Tasting Video by Gary Vaynerchuck

Ever wonder what kind of wine goes well with Licorice? Watch this video to find out. Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV, pairs Panda Licorice with three different wines: a white Roja, an Italian Primitivo, and a California Zinfadel. Gary is a true licorice lover. He understands that only black licorice is real licorice, and he uses Panda Licorice, the Finnish licorice made from natural ingredients. This baby loves Dubbel Zout (double salt) black licorice from Holland

Dubbel Zout (double salt) black licorice from Holland has a unique salty taste that may take some getting used to.  Some people enjoy giving Dubbel Zout to their friends, just to see their reaction, and some enjoy videotaping the faces people make when tasting the salty candy.

Baby Maggie loves Dubbel Zout!  There's nothing like a baby's reaction to candy.  Watch it here:

If you want to try Dubbel Zout for yourself (or if you want to give it to your friends to see their reaction), click here to order.

What about you?  Are you a Dubbel Zout lover, or is the salty taste too much for you?  Leave a comment to tell us about it.

Ferret Licorice Attack Video

Combine one stick of red licorice, one ferret, and one slippery wood floor, and what do you get? A licorice attack! Watch this fun video. No ferrets were harmed in the making of this video, but one certainly had a lot of fun eating licorice. Oh, and the dogs seemed to enjoy looking on too.

(NOTE: We do not promote feeding licorice to your pets on a regular basis; we just thought this was a fun video to share.)

Click here to order licorice sticks in many flavors, including some you might not expect.

What are Oh Ryan's Irish Potatoes? How are they made?

This is a once a year treat from Licorice International.

They're not Irish and they're not made out of potatoes. They're delightful coconut cream candies coated in cinnamon, and they're made in Philadelphia, where they're a popular treat around St. Patrick's Day. They look just like miniature potaotes and taste like a bit of heaven. Here's a video that shows them being made in a Philadelphia factory:

Until recently, Oh Ryan's Irish Potatoes were only available in Philadelphia. But now these delicious (and a bit decadent) treats are available on-line through Licorice International. Elizabeth, one of the "Licorice Ladies" who owns Licorice International, remembered how much she loved Irish Potatoes when she lived in Philadelphia, and she wanted to share the special treat with you. You can order Oh Ryan's Irish Potatoes here. Order soon for St. Patrick's Day!

Good and Plenty Licorice Commercial from the 1950s

They just don't make television commercials like they used to. No hype, no false claims, just fun. And often a cute jingle to help you remember.

Here's a commercial for Good and Plenty, a long-time licorice favorite:

Licorice International sells this traditional favorite, and it's always fresh. You never know what you're going to find at the grocery store. You can choose a 1/2 pound bag or a 5 pound bag. Or try our Licorice Tunnel Mix or American Favorites Sampler, which feature Good and Plenty along with other traditional American licorice treats.

Licorice Festival at Pontefract a Success

Imagine a festival celebrating licorice! It would be heaven for licorice lovers. On July 12 of this year, thousands of people turned out in Pontefract, England, for their annual Licorice Festival. (That's "Liquorice Festival" to the Brits.)

Pontefract farmers first started growing licorice in a small field in 1730, and now the quaint cobblestoned town is dubbed the "Liquorice Capital of the Word." The Liquorice Festival celebrates with live entertainment, vendors, tours of the historic castle, licorice-themed food and of course, lots of yummy licorice to sample and buy.

At this year's festival, you could make a licorice mosaic, watch Maypole dancers, learn about licorice workers through the years, and watch the Urban Angels Aerial Acrobats. You could also choose from licorice sausages, licorice pies, licorice ale, pot grown licorice plants, and plenty of licorice candy, including the colorful Licorice Allsorts, a popular treat in the UK.

Here's a video from a past Liquorice Festival:

Ernie Loves Licorice

Sesame Street's Ernie has good taste. See how he tricks Bert out of most of the licorice whip candy! Can you blame him?

He'd have a lot of fun with Licorice Laces from Licorice International.
