"Thanks for the licorice" from troops in Afghanistan

Packages of licorice are encouraging the troops in Afghanistan.  Through Licorice International's unique program called "Treats for the Troops," licorice lovers can send a shipment of Kenny's Licorice Twists to men and women serving in the Armed Forces. Dear Licorice Ladies,

I want to thank you for taking the time to send some licorice to my soldiers here in Afghanistan. As you can see the licorice brought a smile to every soldiers face that received the licorice. You ladies are great Americans who support and remember that daily our soldiers sacrifice their lives, bodies, and time with their families to keep our borders safe and secure. These particular soldiers that you see in the pictures are doctors, nurses, or medics that care for the wounded soldiers at our Forward Surgical Support hospital. They will work for hours on end to ensure that the wounded are take care of and that they receive the best care possible. God bless each and every one of you who contributed to sending the licorice and most importantly letting the soldiers know that Americans love them enough to take time out of their day to support them. How to Help a Soldier Overseas - Send Licorice

You can touch a soldier overseas by sending a package of licorice.  That's right!  Sometimes something as simple as a sweet treat can bring encouragement.

A chaplain sent this picture and the following thank you note:

We received your licorice the other day and it is fantastic. We plan to share it with our Soldiers as they come and go carrying out missions.

It's such nice generosity from wonderful people like you that at times just overwhelms us. I know the Soldiers and Marines that come to see us love it. I bet I have 30 people visit my chapel a day just for candy.

I probably have 50 plus come for coffee. God sure is good. He brings them by or me to them and I get a have a chance to bring a personal touch of Christ into their lives. We have chapel services every Sunday, prayer devotionals on Wednesdays, Karaoke Nights on Fridays (we have service members from each branch of service here sometimes even Danish and British Soldiers). Then we have a Chaplain movie night with soda and popcorn.

I guestimate that we serve or personally touch between 200-350 a week.

We look forward to continue to minister to our excellent service members who serve our great country and protect the freedoms we enjoy.

Chaplain CH Stephens, stationed in Afghanistan, managed to get a picture of a soldier with some licorice before the rest of the soldiers ate it all. Soldiers Say Thanks for the Licorice

We just received this great photo of soldiers enjoying licorice. Yep, that's right. Through Licorice International's special program, Treats for the Troops, you have the opportunity to send Kenny's Licorice Twists to soldiers stationed overseas. The treats are sent to chaplains, who distribute them to the soldiers. It's amazing how a little bit of candy can boost morale.

Soldiers are requesting licorice

Celebrity Chef Emeril Lagasse recently visited a military base to film a TV special. In a follow-up interview he was asked what non-perishable food items he would recommend that family and friends send to military people. One of the things he suggested was licorice. Here's what he said:

Q: What non-perishable food items would you recommend that family and friends send to military people?

A: I just shipped a box [recently] to a couple of friends and it was simple stuff … a lot of my spices, which is what they wanted, a few jars of my pasta sauce, licorice — believe it or not, red and black licorice was one of the big requests — and hard candies. Bags of them, because that’s what they miss.
